Are you on the lookout for the ideal sports utility vehicle to serve as a family car or to take on trips to the countryside? Are you wondering what the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander can offer you? Allow us to give you a rundown of its features.

What’s Different from the 2015 Model?

  • You could swear they are almost the same size, but the 2016 is actually just a bit longer at 184.8 inches long and 71.3 inches wide.
  • The 2016 model has aluminum wheels instead of steel; the wheel size is also slightly bigger at 18x7 inches.
  • The 2016 model is also heftier at 3,318 lbs. compared to the 3,285 lbs. of the 2015 model.
  • It also has improved frontal barrier crash rating driver features.

Fuel Efficiency
City – 25 mpg
Highway – 31 mpg
Fuel tank capacity – 16.6 gallons

The Outlander has a Regular Unleaded I-4 2.4L engine that can put out an SAE net torque of 162 ft-lbs. at 4,200 rpm. It can also put out an SAE net horsepower of 166 at 6,000 rpm.     It has a Sequential MPI fuel injection system.

The figures remain the same from the 2015 model; dead weight hitch-max trailer, weight distributing hitch-max trailer, and maximum trailering capacity are at 1,500 lbs. while dead weight hitch-max tongue weight is at 150 lbs. and weight distributing hitch-max tongue weight is at 225 lbs.

Suspension and Transmission

What You Will Love About This Car

It’s a really safe car; its active safety features include forward-collision and lane-departure warnings and adaptive cruise control. The Outlander received top results in every category of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests to get their Top Safety Pick status.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also gave the Outlander high marks with four stars for frontal impact and five stars in the side-impact tests. The all-wheel-drive models received five stars, while the front-wheel-drive models received four stars.

With its design you are sure to have a pleasant and quiet ride in the cabin; no matter what environment you are driving in.

The 2016 model has improved seat-folding, compared to the clunky system of the older models.

What You May Not Like About This Car

  • The look has not changed since the 2015 model, so if you did not like the appearance of the previous model, you aren’t likely to appreciate its exterior.
  • The model has a V-6 variant but it seems to get mixed reactions. While it does bring up the towing capacity to 3,500 pounds, it also asks for premium fuel and does not really do better when it comes to performance.
What We Say
If you're not hung up on the exterior appearance The Outlander is the car for you. Not being limited to the V-6 variant you have a lot of choices in the trims. It’s also a safe car that can safely and comfortably transport a lot of people or pull a heavy load when necessary.
